Bonnie Brown and Louisa Breen
For sheer spectacle it is hard to beat a spirited
performance of piano duo.
Two grands and four hands. And in the
hands of these two
highly-accomplished and internationally-celebrated Australian concert
pianists,
Bonnie Brown and Louisa Breen, two huge grand pianos thunder and soar.
The
hairs on the back of your
neck will
tingle!
Coming to Melbourne in August 2011, the duo are preparing compelling solo and duo repertoire to ensure a very special performance of pieces rarely heard in concert in Australia. Bonnie and Louisa will perform a program of classical and popular music to delight every
ear and every heart, featuring Bernstein’s enthralling favourite West Side Story, and Ravel’s virtuosic La Valse, originally commissioned by Diagheliv, in duo on two 9 ft. grand pianos, together with a special selection of solo pieces as a curtain-raiser.
Bonnie and Louisa are both highly acclaimed pianists locally and internationally.
Bonnie has studied and performed in Australia, United Kingdom, China, France, Austria, and Norway, and won numerous competitions, prizes and scholarships since first playing piano at the age of 3, including a Churchill Fellowship and an Australia Council Project Fellowship. (Bio here)
Louisa, too, has been the recipient of a vast number of accolades, including the Chappell Gold Medal in 1999 at the Royal College of Music in London, their highest prize for piano.
She has toured Asia and Australasia
as a member of the RCM Premiere ensemble and performed regularly as a
soloist and as a chamber musician in concerts throughout London and the
UK, including such venues as Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, St
Martin-in-the-Fields and Winchester Cathedral. (Bio here)
As well, these two young women also both started their musical training with Suzuki, both attended Preshil School, and both attended the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, Melbourne University, and the Australian National Academy of Music. Louisa continued her studies internationally in London at RCM, Bonnie in Paris at the Ecole Normale.
CHURCHILL FELLOWS
As a Churchill Fellow, Bonnie is keen to share the benefits of her overseas training with other Fellows.
The Fellowship allowed Bonnie a unique opportunity to study in Paris with international concert pianist Cristina Ortiz, and Bonnie will tie the performances with a short presentation for Churchill Fellows to enhance the event.
Details will follow soon....
SUZUKI MUSIC FAMILIES
With both Bonnie and Louisa having graduated the Suzuki Method, this will be an inspiring concert for all Suzuki families, but especially those with students of piano.
A Special Suzuki
ticket discount applies, to allow families to enjoy the event at a lower cost, or to attend the matinee. Families must be current financial members to benefit.
It is especially pleasing to both Bonnie and Louisa that they can extend this benefit to members of the organisation that gave them so much support at an early age.
